Hebrides Ensemble – Scotland’s world-class contemporary classical music ensemble – is seeking a new Chair

25 October 2016

With confirmed funding until March 2018, a long list of prestigious festival, a ground-breaking digital project and an extensive education programme, Hebrides Ensemble is on a roll as it celebrates its 25th birthday. Our Chair Ben Twist is stepping down in December owing to pressure of work after six successful years and so we are looking for a new Chair. If you are interested in the role, please contact Jennifer Martin on jennifer@hebridesensemble.com.

Our supportive and committed Board has recently gained new members with each having a particular focus based on their experience as well as taking overall responsibility for Hebrides Ensemble’s long term sustainability. Jim Sneddon, Martin Suckling, Jo Buckley, Rachel Lloyd and Tom Wilson have expertise in finance, programming, touring and operations, marketing and education and together oversee and support the Artistic Director William Conway and Chief Executive Jennifer Martin. We hold a minimum of four meetings per year, generally in Edinburgh, and provide additional support between meetings as required. The Chair is additionally responsible for the line management of the Chief Executive and Artistic Director, for preparing and chairing meetings and for board development. Ben currently meets the Chief Executive at least monthly and the Artistic Director three or four times per year to ensure that the company develops in line with the Board’s policies and decisions. Applicants for the role of Chair should have previous Board or Chief Executive level experience.

This is a voluntary role, but we pay all reasonable expenses including childcare and travel. The payback is being part of a successful and lively company which plays great contemporary classical music to the highest standards

If you’d like an informal discussion about the role, please feel free to contact Ben on ben.twist@blueyonder.co.uk.
