Giorgi Gvantseladze was born in Tbilisi in 1984. Between 1996 and 2005 he studied at the Z. Paliashvili Musical Gymnasium in Tbilisi and at the Tbilisi State Conservatory with Giorgi Beridze. He won various national competitions: including 1st prize in the François Leleux competition, and 1st prize in the national music competition of Georgia.
Georgi has also received a scholarship from the Georgian President, Vladimit Spivakov, Kancheli-Kakhidze and DAAD. During his studies in Tbilisi he was a guest student at the Richard Strauss Conservatoire, Munich and after graduating from the Tbilisi Conservatory he continued to study at the Munich ‘Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater‘ with François Leleux.
Giorgi has performed as principal oboe with Bavaria Radio Symphony Orchestra, HR Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and has worked with Nicoluas Harnoncourt, Zubin Mehta, Paavo Järvi, Jakow Kreizberg, Christian Zacharias amongst others.
Between 2007 and 2010 he was principal oboe of Frankfurt Opera Orchestra and since 2010 he has been principal oboe with Munich State Opera Orchestra.
Giorgi has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras; he is also an active chamber musician. He has played with many well known musicians, including Mourice Bourge, Sergio Azzollini, Gustavo Nunies, Kersten McCall, Bram van Sambeek, Frits Damrow, and Radovan Vlatkovic. He is also a member of Tbilisi Wind Festival, and in 2009 he has been awarded the European Juventus Prize.
